Wright Construction Group has been working with FDOT to manage the reconfiguring of the intersection of San Carlos Blvd. and Estero Blvd. Even as work continues, we are pleased that motorists are experiencing the benefits of this project, with lessened congestion and improved traffic flow.
While not a true roundabout, the traffic island divides opposing traffic streams. The feature will have dedicated signalized turn lanes and a U-turn lane in the middle. Motorists will be able to U-turn when traveling south into the island and turn left onto 5th Street when traveling north towards the Matanzas Pass Bridge.
There are also dedicated bus turnouts for public transit. A traffic signal will be added at Main Street before the bridge to help regulate traffic flow onto the island. Multiple signalized pedestrian crossings will prevent foot traffic from crossing in the middle of traffic. Once finished, there will be two lanes coming into the island instead of the dedicated bus lane that’s there now.
